If you are planning a vacation to Australia there are many things you need to know. Many people forget about the differences with other English speaking countries until they get to their destination. Many of the differences you might consider include electricity, the weather, money, and much more.
The electrical outlets used in Australia are most likely not going to be what you are used to. America uses 110 outlets and most of your appliances that you want to take with you when you travel are not going to work. This means your hair dryer, curling iron, electric razor, and anything you are accustomed to plugging in the wall. You will need to purchase adapters or a voltage converter for these items. The best way to save time is to go to a store in Australia and just buy a new curling iron and hair dryer when you get there. You also might want to pick up a few candles too. You will need an adapter if you want to play with the firefox extensions on your laptop in the hotel.
The weather in Australia is not the same as most countries. You can enjoy wonderful temperatures in two different seasons. The summer season is very wet and rainy while the winter season is very dry. The seasons are also opposite of the United States so you must plan accordingly. When you pack cloths you want to pack lightweight clothing to wear. This is usually suitable for year round wear. If you are traveling to the southern side of Australia you want to pack sweaters and warmer clothing for the evenings during the winter months. You might pack similar if you were going on San Diego Cruises.
The money in Australia is not the US dollar. However, it is treated the same as the US dollar as far as 100 cents is one dollar. There are facilities you can change your money when you arrive to the destination. It is usually recommended you travel with traveler’s checks because they are protected if you lose them or if you are robbed. Also, Australia will usually accept traveler’s checks. You don’t want to arrive from the airport and be immediately stranded because you do not have the right currency. Most of the airports to have currency exchange facilities though.
When you travel to Australia be sure you check the currency laws also. They have strict laws prohibiting weapons, wildlife, firearms, drugs, plants, and more. There is not a limit to the amount of cash you take out of Australia though. However, you must report any amount of money over $5,000.
If you are traveling to Australia on vacation it is important to be aware of many of the different laws and lifestyle changes that exist here. You will need to be prepared for the electrical issues so you don’t set a fire in the hotel or ruin an outlet. You don’t want to have to pay the hotel a hefty amount of money one your first day. Also, be aware of the exchange for currency because they do not use the same money as other countries.
